Fine Art Photography Volunteer or Internship Opportunities      

PhotoEmerge provides volunteer or internship opportunities that encompass fine art market analysis, business development, artwork preparation, website management, networking and outreach learning and experience. The intern will work and be mentored by Naveed Nour on art related subject matters, and/or by Zohreh Firouzabadian, the PhotoEmerge Business Director on career advancement. The volunteer or intern can choose one to three of the following project areas.

Project Areas

Assistance in Art Projects:

You will assist the artist(s) in developing their project(s). This may include all areas from location scouting to creating the work. In the process you will learn about the thinking process of the artist(s), how to manage a project and how to market it.

Fine Art Photography Market Analysis:

Research, analyze and report on market trends. Analyze and identify customer leads, collectors, curators, galleries and other visual art organizations and centers. Summarize sales, purchasing and visual arts conference trends in North America. Introduce PhotoEmerge to editors, reviewers, curators, galleries, visual art centers and customers.

Business Development:

Utilize creative and innovative marketing and business strategies to strengthen existing business practices and establish strategic partnerships.

Website Management:

Web administration and design for PhotoEmerge and partner websites. Sample work requested for this position.

Network & Outreach:

Help in opening networking and communication channels between PhotoEmerge, artists and organizations. Meet with new people and galleries to introduce them to PhotoEmerge. Assist in archiving and managing communication and contact information of potential, new and established relationships.

Editorial:

Writers, illustrators and photographers with relevant experience to PhotoEmerge projects will help to create content for news articles, marketing material websites affiliated with PhotoEmerge. Participation as a journalist at some public events may be required. Samples of prior work will be required for this position.

Required Qualifications:

Participating volunteers or interns should be of photography, graphic design, web development, journalism or business areas. Depending on your area of experience one or more of the following is required: Experience working with HTML, Front Page, Dreamweaver, Flash, MS Office, Illustrator and Photoshop. Able to complete tasks with minimal supervision and must be self-motivated. Professional demeanor, interest in learning, proactive, flexible are very important to PhotoEmerge. Have solid oral and written communication skills. 

Preferred qualifications:

Interest or knowledge of galleries, museums, and/or art education and administration.

Compensation and Credits:

The volunteer or internship positions are unpaid. In exchange, participants will be tutored by Naveed Nour and Zohreh Firouzabadian in various areas that will help them to advance their careers in their fields. Course credits can also be arranged if requested.

Location:

Meeting locations will be either in Watertown, MA which is accessible by MBTA buses from Harvard and Central Square in Cambridge, or at one of our office on Clarendon Street in Boston. Some work can be completed remotely with prior arrangements.

Start and End Date and Hours:

Dates and durations will be discussed during the application process. Hours are flexible with minimum of 8-10 hours a week depending on the projects and timelines, but will be determined ahead of time for the convenience of the participants to. Some positions or projects may require weekend and evening assignments with prior arrangements.
